Hello,
I have a 1999 aluminium Starcraft 19 1/2 ft Fishmaster powered by a 150 hp Merc. Optimax engine. This boat has a 50 gal gas tank that seems to be located in the center to stern of the boat. It also has a 9.9 kicker mounted on the stern. My point being the the boat is stern heavy. The prop is a Laser II 3 blade 14 1/2 X 19 SS. There are two problems I would like to correct. It is slow to plane and after being on plane when cutting back the throttle the stern settles back into the water too quickly. It has been suggested that changing to a 4 blade 14 1/2 X 18 or 17 should be correct the problem. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if I do change props should I buy stainless or aluminium?

Thanks

I think that dollar for dollar something like smart tabs would be more cost effective.Plane easier stay on plane with less power,I would think it would settle at a slower speed. They arte said to elimate no wake speed wander. If you give us your present max rpm and speed
and the rated rpm of the motor we may be able to suggest if a prop change is necessary.Huster makes al props that deliver close to stainless performance at al prices.

Hi Steelespike,

Thanks for the quick response,
I forgot to mention that I I took off the stingray from the engine and added the smart tabs. Nauticus recommended that I use the 60's rather than the 80's. There was some improvement, but not enough to be satisfied with.

The RPMs are in the 5200 to 5500 and speed is 34-37

Thanks

Hope this helps you

Generally speaking a 4 blade prop will have stern lift. You should be able to raise the motor some too.
