Hi all,

I just obtained a 14ft Mirrocraft aluminum boat with a 20hp Johnson outboard. It looks like an older Seahorse model. Here are the model & serial numbers:

Model: FDL 22M
Serial: J2924796

My guess is that is was made in Fond du Lac Wisconsin, June of 1979. Not sure about that, so if anyone can tell by the serial number I would appreciate the help in putting an age to this motor.

It has sat for about 2 years, so I am planning to dump the gas. Plugs look good. A couple of questions:

1. Anything else I should think about doing before firing it up?
2. What would the gas / oil mix be, 50:1?

If it starts, I am thinking I will probably sell it and replace it with a 9.9 HP or a 15HP. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for the help!

FDL-22M is a 1968 model.

Fuel should be 50:1 Plugs should be Champion J4C, gapped at 0.030"

If has been sitting unused then read the item "Awakening a sleeping outboard" on the "Engine Frequently Asked Questions" board
