Johnson 1988 V6 GT150, premix, VRO has been bypassed.
On a center console. I have limited experience but I know how to change the water pump and lower unit oil.
Need your help to diagnose this problem.
Problem:
I started the engine fine and went fishing for a few hours.
Then when I tried to start it and go home:
When I turn the key to "ON", the voltmeter has no reading.
When I turn it to start the engine, nothing happened, quiet. No electricity to the starter!
The batterr is brand new, and the two 55W onboard lights are bright.
After I had someone towed the boat to the dock. I found the tilt and trim did not work either! Normally it does not even need the key on the console to operate. I had to loose the override screw on the hydraulic to manually raise the motor.
So what happened?
Fuse? I checked the fuse but the only found 2 under the console which were fine. anywhere else?
Ignition Switch? but how can it affect the power tilt and trim?
Power pack? I don't know about this.

At the starter solenoid, follow the smaller red wire back slightly. You'll see a fuse holder. This is the main power fuse that supplies voltage to the battery terminal of the ignition switch.

Night, After you repair the blown fuse at the starter solenooid, as Joe suggests, you need to find the short. It could be on the motor wiring harness, on the boat harness or in the dash instruments, or even the starter solenoid, itself.

BTW- I had a similar problem and found melted wires on the engine harness and under th dash, on the boat harness. The purple wire is the accessory wire (hot when ignition is on), and if it shorts it will bolw the fuse.
