I have an 85HP Johnson 1980. The motor will only start if I turn the fuel valve on the motor itself to manual start, turn the key over once, then turn the fuel vavle back to run and then the motor starts with the key. Any help would be great! Do you think I need a new fuel valve?

Hi skylar, if you are referring to the red handle on the primer solenoid, then your solenoid may be shot or there is no voltage getting to it. If you have a volt meter, clip the red lead to the purple/white lead going to the solenoid and the black lead to ground. Turn the key on and push to choke. If you have 12volts to the solenoid, and it does not "click", then the solenoid is bad and needs replaced. If the solenoid does "click", take the head off the solenoid, four small screws, and make sure the plunger is free and operating. Watch that the spring don't fly out when you remove the head cap. Hope we have helped.

Thanks outboardJim! I will try that. Do you know on an average how much that part is new? Thanks again!
