I need to replace the power steering booster cylinder on my Mercrusier. I was told my the gentleman at Aftermarket Marine, that it has to be ordered from a Mercury/Mercruiser dealer (it is not available aftermarket). Can someone tell me the part number of this unit.

Details:

Mercruiser 228 4bbl serial# 5201384
Transom Assembly serial# 4530652
Outdrive MC 120/140 serial# 4530652

I'm working from Mercruiser Manual #4 pages 6-12 thru 6-15

I need to track down a replacement booster pump (the housing is actually damaged and repaired by the previous owner and the repair has failed). Anyone who can help me find one, I'd be much appreciative.

You may be able to find a marine "Pick-a-part" that will have these units for about 1/2 of new. Do an on-line search for marine recyclers or salvage yards in your area.

If not; in California:

Rancho Marine Recycling 916-638-8908
Shipwreck 916-635-1945
Marine Salvage 209-466-9283

All in Northern CA

Re: Help locating power steering booster cylinder

I don't really have a problem paying full price for it, I just need to find one. My local Mercruiser repair shop says they can't find the part in their schematics. Does anyone have the correct part number for the booster cylinder?

Assuming you are looing for the cylinder itself, the PN is 57969A12. They have been NLA from Merc for several years now.

Thanks Don. That's what I feared. I JB weld'ed the hole and hope it'll work for the next 10 years as it has worked in the past. I guess I'll try to keep my eyes open for someone with an old one in stock. Thanks again.
