Help - Lower Unit

Can anyone help me, I have an older 6hp MERC , I am trying to get to the shift rod foot, that is off the
Rod , I have everything out except the last gear in the back and I can't figure out if it is pressed in or what
Can anyone help me , and maybe tell me how to get that big gear in back out. Dave

As stated earlier , heat on the bearing area and the gear / bearing falls out.----Might be as simple as pouring boiling water onto the nose of the housing!
