Help! Main fuse keeps blowing.

The 20 amp fuse near the battery has blown out three times in the last two days. It happens when I move the throttle back into neutral quickly. I've searched and read about purple wires, accessories, and the shift interupt circuit.

One thing I'm wondering about is our kind of old battery. Could a failing battery in anyway cause this? The boat and wiring harness are like new and unmolested. Although I did drill a few holes just ahead of the throttle last year for a RAM mount. Hmmm.

Any ideas before we take it in?

I would add that when this fuse blows, nothing on the dash has power including the ignition. Everything else works.

Oops, not sure what happened to the rest of my post.
Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that was able to retrieve your first post and went ahead and reposted it for you.

What year and engine model are you working on? Is it the MERCRUISER 3.0 1A012558 in your signature line?
