Help me choose a pedestal.....

Ok. I'm looking for some inexpensive pedestals for my old 14 foot fiberglass boat.
My boat is setup so you are basically down in the boat, flat floor all the way back. My old pedestals (well bases I guess, big square things) are too large & take up a lot of precious area. So I was looking into something like the following examples as replacements. This way, If I'm by myself I can lose the back chair completely. My boat is stick steering controlled from the front seat of the boat. So the front is always needed there.
My old bases were about 20 inches up where the base met the chair. It was an ok height, no problems. Both of theses bases in question are 28 inches (minumum for the hydraulic). Do you think the height difference will cause a problem? I don't but thought I'd ask.
Finally, which base would you choose? They are the exact same price.

Ex #1: Hydrualic setup, 28-34 inch, swivels.

Ex #2: Standard setup, 28 inch, swivels.

My thoughts? Well, the adjustable is cool, but in the same thought, more prone to break.
Any help?

Thanks.....

Re: Help me choose a pedestal.....

28-34" is a pretty tall post OldTyme. .. I'm 6'5 and have a few of them that are similar and If I sit with my back all the way back in the seat my toes will just barely touch the floor .. they're a situational post for me.

I'd look into something like 16-24" TOTAL height for comfortable seating for fishing.. remember the seats themselves add hieght as well.

take a few measurements and see what you come up with.. if you measure a dinner table chair you should be @ 18" from floor to seat top..

good luck

Thanks Barlow.
After reading your post I went & did some measuring.
28 inches WILL be too high. Just the bottom half of my seat adds 5 inches.
Looks like my search continues.

Thanks for the quick reply.

(well ok, saying I find smaller ones, would you choose a stationary one or hydraulic? )

i have a pneumatic one, nice as it allows you a bit of a change in position on a long day, stretch the legs some.. Also nice if maybe you take a kid with you someday.
