I am new to outbourding. I bought a used 1966 Clinton 5hp outboard motor. The previous owner said he started it six month ago. I now want to start it but cant figure out the fuel mixture. The owners manual says to mix one-half pint of oil to one gallon of REGULAR gasoline. I have a Two gallon tank. Does that mean I have really put a whole one pint( 16 ounces ) bottle into the two gallon gas tank? Please help me figure this out.

This is for Clinton 1966 5hp motor model J9.

Re: Help me figure out my proper oil mixture.

You already figured it out, Luckya.

Yes, that is a 16:1 mix, which is very rich compared to other outboards. Just think of your Clinton as a lawnmower or chainsaw.

It would probably be a good idea to use chainsaw oil as well. Modern outboard oil is for water cooled engines.

Yes, 87 octane is REGULAR.

Good luck. :)
