Help me figure this out Please 150 Yamaha

Does anybody know why my twin 1998 /150hp Yamahas use the oil from the resevior in the engine instead of the 2 gallon tanks? 2 seperate tanks one for each engine and they both do the same . I'm thinking it's a wire or something but I have no idea. Thanks
