Can any one advise me on how to change the the fluid on this out drive. I put some omc type c fluid in the tilt gear section -(directions printed on the metal) Im just not sure how to change the fluid in the prop area. I assume I drain it out of the bottom screw in the pic and fill it where I am pointing on the top but i dont know what oil to use- is it also the type C?. ANy help would be appreciated. I'm still waiting for the manual i ordered but really want to get this on the water this weekend.

You drain from the bottom and fill from the bottom also.
First remove the top plug, then drain from the bottom plug.
Then fill the new lube from the bottom hole till you see it coming out the top hole. Replace top plug, then bottom plug. This forces any air bubbles out the top as you are filling the case. You must use the non-conductive (type C) lube in the lower because it's an electric shift, but any other marine gear lube can be used in the upper and intermediate housing.

Sweet. Thanks for the info. Do I fill the intermediate and upper the same way?

There is no drain for your early intermediate housing. They did not put one in til they changed to the hydro-mechanical unit in 1978.

Best to just get a suction pump, stick the tube in the hole and suck out as much as you can. I does not hold much, it just keeps the double drive shaft bearing lubricated. Refill with the marine 90w or synthetic.

And yes, you drain and refill the upper housing as the previous poster described for the lower.
