Help me locate some parts for my foot, seals and stuff please.

I just winterized my 1992 Sea Ray 18' open bow with a 4.3L merc and an Alpha I stern drive. Took off the foot to inspect the oil, water pump impeller, and found some things I need to replace.

The main thing that I can't seem to locate is a little seal for the shifter shaft, and I also need the little plastic spacer that is located directly above it. The seal was almost destroyed completely, but it apparently held water out of the drive because the oil looked pretty good. I also need the gaskets for the water pump, as they disintegrated upon inspection. The impeller looked fine. I'm going to reuse it as there isn't any cracking or dry rotting as well.

Any sources for complete seal kits, or just the one that I've mentioned would be appreciated.

Also, do I need to worry about the drive seal? It looks pretty good, and I'm pretty tempted not to remove it at all even for further inspection.

thanks.

Also, the little plastic connector for lube flow is broken on the boat end. What should I do about this?--edit, I've just learned that this is the speedometer pick up tube.

The plastic spacer I was talking about is pictured on the shaft, and the seal on the table. The spacer is split in half.

I've found this nice exploded view:

it says generation II, do I need to look for something that says gen I?

Ayuh,.... iboats sells All the parts you're lookin' for.... or Mercruiser....
Replace the impeller, get the whole Kit... They're reasonably cheap, 'n you'll have fresh gaskets...

The shift rod in the picture is a Gen.II,... Why would you search for Alpha 1 parts..??

Should have asked how to remove that shaft before you removed it.It`s more than just slide it back in. #35 in the link. comes as a complete unit with seals.

thanks, but how is it more than just slide back in?

Yeah, I like the complete unit with seals already installed for $20, but I could just as easily buy the seal and push it in.

And as those seals are known to pop out, I loctite them in place when changing.

that shaft goes into #53 that operates the group #55 that moves #60 to do the shifting.
when you insert the shaft have the drive unit so the driveshaft is horizantal and the prop shaft vertical. gravity should let it drop into foward to insert the shaft. IF #53 got dislodged from it`s lower pin, a complete disassembly of the lower is required.

The new parts are a different material and designed a bit different. Those older white assemblies had a bad habit of leaking, even with new seal.
Same with item 11 in the picture below. Material and design change.

uh, wow, good to know, thanks. I'll be mindful of that as I'm hauling the foot around repainting it and such. Who would have thought?

thanks for the replies.

so is it your advice to go ahead and replace #11 as well? Even if it looks alright?

if you ever need seals and are having trouble finding them, take them to napa and they can gauge them and get replacements.
