My boat tower/daily driver is a 2011 F150 4x4 that currently has 40000 miles on the OEM Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires. Not necessarily my favorite tires I've owned, but so far they've given me no trouble. I can maybe make it to 50000 on the tread life. I think I have it narrowed down to 2 options. I can get the Cooper Discoverer AT3 mounted for right under 900 plus a rebate being offered. Or, I can get take off Goodyear SRAs for 700. That's out the door for both. I like the look of the Coopers, but am questioning if I really need an all terrain tire when 99.9% of my driving is done on the highway. So, just looking for some feedback on which direction to go.

Sounds like you don't need AT, stick with highway tires for less rolling resistance. Mine came with Michelin M/S2 and got almost 100K out of the first set. Would have gotten 100K but ripped the sidewall out of one.

I've always put Michelin on my trucks. Currently running Michelin Latitudes Touring. LTX if you want a little better life

Yeah, I looked at the MS/2s as well. Little pricey, but if they live up to treadlife claims, guess they might be worth it.

Great tire. They are stupid good in terms of tread life.

I've never had a problem with wet traction with the SRAs, even driving though some torrential rain pulling the boat. Never felt like the tires were going to let go on me. I put way too much thought into buying tires anymore.

I have to say I'm also partial to Michelin tires as well. That IS what came on my both vehicles (one truck and the other an SUV) and that is what I stayed with. Can't complain one bite...

Honestly Michelin seems to be the way to go. I had 2 fairly new SRA's on my truck a few years when one started separating driving down the interstate. I was low on $ at the time and found 2 Michelin LTX's used for $50 at a local used tire store. Ride better, balanced with less weight, less noise, better traction, and they haven't seem to have worn at all since I got them. If I could swing it I would definitely go with those. On my other truck I have Firestone Destination A/T's and have been happy with them so far. Silent going down the road- no noise at all. Do quite well off road for an a/t IMO. Mileage took a hit though.

That is the same complaint i see from other people about the Michlens. I have Michlens and no problems but i don't drive like i am 16. I can tell you i am not impressed with the performance in the snow.

All I buy is Cooper anymore ( friend is a dealer ), and the Discover AT/3's are nice. had them on my last truck, but I do a lot on dirt and gravel back roads

I put some Goodrich Rugged Terrains on my Expedition several years ago and have really enjoyed them. They've served me well in terrain or conditions requiring four wheel drive and a more aggressive tread but also ride very well on the highway. The admiral has commented several times on how smooth they are on the road. Also pretty reasonably priced as I recall.
