Hello all, Im currently in the market for a GPS/Fishfinder unit. I hope to take a trip from Ft Laurderdale to Bimini this summer and need Navagation but also want a fish finder too. It was recomended to me to purchase a Garmin 540s. My budget is under 800, just wondering if anyone has any comments on this unit, thanks in advance.

I have been looking for a GPS for a new boat also. I hit the Atlantic City boat show last month and spoke with every vendor I could find. I'm going with the 540s with the inland lakes chip. Check out consumer marine they will be at the miami boat show and had a great show price of $622 at AC.

Elcamino, I bought a 440s last year. I like the unit, but I had a bunch of trouble getting the correct unit. As you know these Garmin units are coded as s for saltwater, X for weather etc, and when I looked online, they were identified inconsistantly. I ended up ordering by part number since the descriptions were impossible to trust.

Try davesmarineelectronics.com He has pretty good prices, and will answer email questions.
