Help me understand how this works......

I pulled the powerhead off my 1989(A) Force 15 HP. I can see where the water supply tube inputs water to the powerhead, but I don't understand where the hot water is ejected from the powerhead. This Force doesn't have the traditional "pee hole", it just sort of spits water out of the exhaust ports from the back of the motor, quite a ways down from the powerhead. I removed the exhaust cover (right word??) from the powerhead to have a look, but didn't see any port that hot water would be ejected from in the powerhead. Am I missing something here???

Also, when I had the exhaust cover off, I noticed one of the pistons was scored (could see them through the exhaust port). Checked the rings to see if they were frozen and they were not. I could rotate them on both pistons. With the engine warm, both cylinders read about 112-115 PSI, with the engine cold one of the cylinders is down to about 90 PSI. Is this a major problem??? The manual states to check compression with the engine warm, which is when the compression is OK. I suspect the motor was overheated before I bought it (had a new W/P impeller). Any advice, thoughts, jokes, or sarcasm greatly appreciated!!!!! :) ;)

Unfortunately, the force just sprays a fine mist out of those holes in the back, which is the exhaust relief. The rest, I think, comes out through the exhaust. As far as one of the piston's being scored, if it is, their is not much you can do except replace it. The compression seems to be in spec, so I would just run it till it broke. The reason that you check it when it is warm is because the heat makes the rings expand and form a tighter seal. If the piston is scored on the top, detonation will probably occur, if not already, then you will lose compression and the motor will run very poorly, if at all. When it does break, I would recommend rebuilding yourself. Hone any scratches in the cylinder you can, and then a gasket kit, two pistons and ring sets will probably set you back no more than 300 bucks. A shop will probably charge around 1000 or so. Force engines are really primitive, and with a good manual, you can do it. Good Luck ;)

Re: Help me understand how this works......

Thanks for the reply Kev,
I'm only planning to run the motor a couple of weeks each Summer on a fresh water lake, so as you mentioned, I think I'll just run it 'till it breaks, then overhaul it myself. I have the Clymer's manual and was surprised to see how simple this thing really is when I removed the powerhead, much easier than cars (which I'm used to).

My only remaining question is where specifically does the hot water come out of the powerhead itself??? Anyone know??? I had the exhaust cover off the powerhead and didn't see any opening to the water jacket so it's still a mystery to me. Do I "really need to know"??? Just curious.
Thanks guys

On my 50hp merc it dose have a pee hole but there is also some holes inide the power head that squirts the hot water into the exhaust gasses. When you come to do a rebiuld by the sound of it you may have to put in over size pistons and rings and get it rebored. hone it to much piston slap and a waisted couple of hundred. ;)
