I pulled a stupid human trick. I stored my bow-filler cushions in a wet area. They developed mold/mildew. I cleaned them off with spray-nine. They cleaned up a little bit there is almost a purple colored mold still there. I think the mold might be inside the cushions. Is that possible? Is there anything I can do besides getting them reupholstered? I would like to avoid that because they are embroidered with the manufacturer?s name.

Any thoughts?

Try magic eraser in a little spot before you go to all that trouble. It has amazed me more than once when cleaning vinyl.

Mold Armour works great. It is a Home Depot brand in the paint section.

I had a similar problem years ago and used Clorox Clean-up. Spray on, let sit for a few minutes, wash off. The little amount of bleach continued to penetrate and after an hour the mold was gone. Try it on a concealed area to test for discoloration.

Dye for vinyl can be obtained at most automotive paint stores or a supply house that sells detailing products used by car washes and auto dealers.

I have similar mold issues with the Sunbrella top on my Crestliner 175 crusader. I spoke with the manufacturer and they told me that the mold must first be "neutralized" and that simple vinegar and water will do this. Then clean with soap and water and re-apply water protectant designed for Poly cotton material. Or in your case a vinyl protectant.

Re: Help, mold/mildew on cushions

Ok I was a bit surprised to see this thread open again, but since it is open I figured an update was in order.

I did try many of the cures to save the cushions, nothing worked. I really didn?t want to get the cushions reupholstered because they are embroidered with the manufacturer?s name but it looked like that would be my only solution. My last ditch effort was Rustoleum Spray Paint for Vinyl Surfaces. I didn?t have any expectations, I figured if this doesn't work, no loss, I will the vinyl replaced. To my amazement, it worked perfectly. Its been almost 11 months since they have been painted and they still look new.
