Just trying to head to the lake so I decided to start the motor before I left. Hooked up hose, started and few seconds later it died. Tried numerous times and no go. Fuel bulb was soft, so I disconnected it from the motor, and pumped a few times while holding the pin in. First only air released, then fuel. Hooked back up. Firm now. Checked all kill switch wiring, neutral wiring seems ok with meter. I have buddies coming in from out of town to go boating and I am now fusterated. Any suggestions. 1996 Force 50hp with quicksilver3000 controls.

Oh ya, I checked for spark, but its those type of plugs without an electrode protruding from it (just a flat one). I thought I seen a spark once but it is a very bright day here and hard to tell. I suppose I could put my lip licker on it but I am not that brave.

fuel,fire,air,-hook up a  timing lite and check for spark,if light flashes ya got fire. then check for fuel, remove fuel bowls ( if applicable ) and check for contaminates, pull plugs and check for a wet plug( to much fuel), when all else fails get out the manuel and check the troubleshooting procedures.

Re: HELP! motor started and died

the plugs did look a little wet. No timing light. manual on order but out of stock. for an outboard, how do I overcome if the engine is flooded -let it sit, crank with throttle open (remember I am using a hose for cooling), or what. How do I tell if flooded? At this point I would like to take it to a service dept, but not open on Saturday.

Another thought, whats your take on something like spraying a little quickstart into the carb? will this help or hinder?
