This past Sunday, shortly after getting on the lake, the my Johnson 88 starts acting up. It was running fine, then all of a sudden a clank noise come from under the hood (I originally thought that I had hit something) and the thing started missing and sputtering. It eventually flooded out, and would not start back. It acting just like a car would when it jumps time. Any ideas? Where should I begin?

Check the engine compression first. If there is more than 10 PSI difference in cylinder compression, there is an internal engine problem.
