I awoke at the cottage this morn and my boat has sunk at the dock. I was able to drag it to the shallows and bail but my 1965 33hp evinrude was partially submerged (fresh water ) for some time

What do I need to do to restart it-it's electric start. What about gas tanks-they were floating .Are they sealed ?

Do a search with the word "sank" and "sunk" and you'll see many good replies

Dry it out soon as best you can, blowing compressed air into hard to reach places, pulling plugs and tilting to carbs and back to plug holes. Get water out of carb's, cylinders etc, and get it started ASAP even if you have to pull start it, and let her run, and run some more. She'll finish drying out running, then lube and oil everthing you can reach. If you get her started and running today you'll probably be fine, fresh water is not so bad.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. As others have suggested, best to dry out everthing ASAP.

For the electrical stuff try Brake Kleen instead of electrical contact cleaner....same chemicals for a fraction of the price. Always verify compatibility with plastic and rubber bits before spraying.

If you elect to use WD-40 to displace moisture be sure to follow up with either PB Blaster or Kroil for long term corrosion protection...WD will evaporate in no time setting you up for mondo rust.
-ANT

Thanks for the advice. Just to let you know I dried off the plugs and she fired up right away. I let her run for some time and took her out and am pleased to report she runs like a youngster

Many thanks
