HELP!!! My Gas Tank Sprung A Leak

I was getting the boat ready for getting wet for the first time this season and all of a sudden I was smelling gas. I looked and looked for a leak and didn't see anything so put the boat away for the evening. Well I found it today! Took the tank out and it is a pin hole leak on the bottom.

The question is, where do I find an inexpensive tank to put in its place. If someone had an extra tank they would want to sell, that would be allright too.

This would be the first time I would take this boat out since I bought it last fall. Better now than out on the water.

Thanks for the help.

Remember when buying used you may be buying someone elses troubles. I would try to find either an aluminium or plastic tank, why go thru rust-out again in the future. When I replaced my Islander tank I went alum, even used there is no chance of rust.

How big are you looking for? 6 gallon plastic tanks around here are $20. Bigger ones that go under the floor are a bit more, but I've seen quite a few both on ebay and cl for $50-75.... just some ideas.

Yeah, I know what you mean about used, just a thought.

By the way it is a 12 gal tank.

I wonder if JB weld on the outside would work? It seems to fix everything! Or what about having 2 6 gallon tanks?

JB weld won't work. but there is an epoxy that will do it easily, but I can't get the name of it til I go back to work Monday. The problem tho is if it has one pinhole in it, can other's be far away. A plastic 12 gal tank isn't real expensive. I've got a 20 gal one I repaired a few years ago that was still holing, but I guarantee noting, as I say about other holes. I have aluminum tanks in both my boats now.

They make a product called Kreem to fix fuel tanks. It's a two part product. I know a lot of people with Harley's that swear by it. I seem to swear at it. Maybe I did something wrong. Cheap at e-bay, but if you're in a hurry for it I believe most motorcycle shops have it, they do here anyway. Costs a lot more there tho.

Take it to a rad shop and see if they can do anything to it. I got mine coated for $150

Finally looked it up at work. Loctite makes an epoxy type fuel tank patch. bonds to aluminum, steel and plastic. Works real good, and not too expensive.
