Can anyone help me identify the purpose of this nipple sticking out of my engine? It drips water when the engine is at idle and I assume also when under power. What should I do about this? Engine is a 1997 175hp Johnson Fast Strike. It's on a 79 Aquasport 200 CCP that I just bought and am trying to get ready for launch.

I believe that is a cylinder head pressure tap for a water pressure gauge and the hose connecting the gauge has become disconnected. If it only "drips", it must be blocked with sand and/or corrosion OR the water pump is not pumping very well. Fortunately, you do not have water spraying inside your motor cover. There is an OEM "plug", p/n 0332135, that is made to block that off if no gauge is used. Should also be a tap or plug on the other cylinder head. Good luck!

Great news. I'll plug it when I have a chance. Thanks
