It really depends on what you want to do with it. The trolling motor should push it around on a quiet lake but I wouldn't expect any thing more than walking speed. I would estimate the boat should carry three average adults (150-200lbs) plus fishing gear safely.

There should be a small metal plate from the manufacturer in the boat listing the weight capacity and max engine hp. That should give you a better idea.

the boat probably does not have a plate. or it may have a weight capacity plate only. 2 adults and a kid, i would put a 6hp motor on it.

boats built prior to 1972 were not required to have capacity plates.

I would say 3 adults would be the max. as far as comfort goes.

As far as means of power, I use a 27# Minn Kota electric trolling motor for my 14'6" aluminum v-hull and I can get it moving at about power walking speed with two adults and lots of gear in it. So it depends where you'll be using it and if you are a patient person or not. I use my boat mostly on lakes and reservoirs where the only current comes from the wind and that is minimal so my little trolling motor gets the job done. I dont go anywhere fast, but I like that. It's a slow liesurly stroll.
