Re: help need resources to rebuild evinrude150

Hi How are ya? Don't know if this will help or not but I was going to rebuild my 1986 150 Johnson
GT. after all the research I did come to find out I was much better off to send it out to get it done. I used Blackbird Industries.Thay do a great job I talked with mike I know he will lead you down the right path. Also you may want to read about the special machines that they use,It will give you 20% more power that reg. rebuilt. I just got mine :) back a few weeks ago, and words can't tell you how great a job they did.I had to turn around to see if that was the same motor on the back of my boat. Give them A try the web address is 1outboard.com let me know how you make out
Tony

Hi Spot 93,
The rebuild is not beyond what most mechanically inclined persons can do. However I wouldn't attemt it without a good factory repair manual. I think that you can purchase one or have it ordered through most Johnson/Evinrude dealers.
Have fun

Re: help need resources to rebuild evinrude150

Hi there well last year I completely rebuilt my 200 hp merc ..........rings bearings seals pistons, and had bought a manual from clymer and found it was very good. I rebuilt it on my dining room table as this was the cleanest place that i felt ( wife didn't like it and no one over for dinner for a couple of weeks ha ha!) just take your time and check everything twice, I also used loctite on all fasteners and paid attention to all tolerances.Biggest thing i found and hard was someone trying to talk to you well you were busy concentrating on what you were doing. No distractions ----period! Now I have about 25 hrs on the engine and running great...........after the summer checked compression and all six cylinders were 124-125 lbs .............and the big plus was self satisfaction , and really seeing what makes these engines tick sort of speak. Well good luck and happy boating!!!
