HELP, needed gear part, HELP

I took out my lower unit and found that the upper roller bearing was bad, i have ordered it from a local boat repair shop but they cant find a replacement gear that goes at the bottom of the drive shaft. I have looked it up on line and you can only buy the whole set and not just the small pinion gear. I have an Evinrude F40ELCO, g1014084. Any help!!!!
If anyone has a spare kicking around or used as a paper weight plz plz plz let me know....... I'm running out of ideas..

the reason you can only find sets is because that is how the should be replaced.

I have seen individual gears for sale so maybe poke around some more or try Ebay but you are probably just buying time as it won't last very long.

What happened to the original pinion gear?
