Hi -

I just purchased the TPS test harness and have it hooked to the motor. I'm unsure of which test probe on the DVM the red (+) goes into (pink, red or orange) or which one the black (-) goes into??? Also, do I set the DVM for DC Volts? Once they're attached, do I just turn the ignition key on (without starting the motor) and get the reading?

I'm not familiar with all this testing stuff and don't want to fry the motor.

Thank you.

ok, pay attention very closely to the wire colors on the ENGINE side of the tps.
black is ground ,pink is pick off and orange is 5V DC reference.
the colors on the adapter change.
with key on check between engine black and orange, should read 5V with key on, now shift the red meter lead to the engine pink. should read .5 volts with the shutters fully closed NOT at idle but fully closed.

Rodbolt,

What should the pick-off voltage be with engine off and throttle wide open?

What would you consider too low?

Thanks,

we typically see 3.2 to 3.8 V at wot however the only way to verify correct timing is at wot with its normal load or the correct test wheel.

Thanks Rodbolt, I have been seeing 3.8V and wondered if it should be closer to the 5V reference voltage.
