help needed with 20hp johnson seahorse

hi to all, first time here so please be patient with me,
well i bought this engine of good old ebay a couple of weeks ago as a good runner , the bloke started it up in a wheelie bin (1st pull)

i used it on my boat this weekend but found it started fist pull and revved very well in neuteral gear and ticked over fine but the choked needed to pulled all the way out or the engine would die, anyway i put into gear and the engine would not rev as hard and still would not run unless choke fully pulled out again but the engine also ran erractily slighty missing beats and revs go up and down when in full throttle it seemed it has quite a bit of power but did not seem to have the full power it should. it pumps water extreamly well and starts so easily, i have taken the carb off to fit a kit as after reading a few threads i put it down to the high spped jet.. well i cant seem to find an engine tag looks like its been removed /lost, so i cant order any parts untill i find the date of the engine and the make of carbs as there are various makes of carbs listed ,i tried to add a pic but could not figure out how to post one from my desktop ...please..... all help greatfully welcome.. ps the jets seem clear but some green corrosion on the butterfly

When you've typed a new message ... but before you click on the "Submit Reply" button ... click on the "Manage Attachments" button under Attach Files. That will open a new window where you can "Browse" to the location of the picture on your computer where the picture you want to post is located. Once you've selected the picture, click on "Upload" ... and when it's been uploaded, close that new window and click "Submit Reply"!
