Ok guys. I have a 1998 Force 90hp motor. It seems to be running great. Fires up first key turn, Idles great, runs like a top, no problems to report. I bought it from the original owner and he obviously took great care of it, when I picked it up the engine was as clean as you would see one on the show room floor. All that being said I want to keep it that way. I read on here that Force engines are good you just have to do more preventative maintenance to them. I am new to boating and boat motors so I'm not sure what that entails. Could you guys please tell me what I should be doing and how often to keep her running like a top. I have had it on the water for a good 8-10 day long fishing trips and have never had a moments trouble. I do put 1oz seafoam in the tank for every 1gallon of gas I put in, is this good or should I stop? I have heard ethanol was bad for carbs is why I was doing this.

Re: Help New Force/Boat Owner.

If you add too much Seafoam you can actually strip the oil from the cylinders.
I don't add Seafoam.My opinion on Seafoam is it's a waste of $
There is a blue liquid I add if the boat's gonna set for any length of time.
It's an Ethanol Stabilizer.
And sometimes I don't add that and it still works fine.
ANY MOTOR should have periodic maint. A grease gun and a can of WD-40 and a spray can of White Litium Grease is a MUST.
There are a few grease fittings and areas that need the WD The steering cable end needs to be cleaned and lubed.
The best additive is not an additive but a procedure. It's called a de-carb. I use Merury's Powertune or OMC's product.

Re: Help New Force/Boat Owner.

If your having trouble starting the decarb might help.
Your motor's running good so you probably don't need it.
But if you decided to do it,it wouldn't hurt, just to make sure your good.
I haven't done a decarb in a few years(might do one soon?).
As long as the air screws are set,the recirc system is clean and no clogs.
And you don't run too much oil or troll to much you should be ok just like you are.
But stop the Seafoam

Re: Help New Force/Boat Owner.

I have been using Seafoam for many years.
It is an excellent fuel system maintainer.

Thanks guys. I do troll pretty frequently. I have also heard I should de-fogg every 4 or 5 outings. Is this something you guys do?

Re: Help New Force/Boat Owner.

4-5 trips?? Not sure I'd do it every 4-5 trips.
If you use anything to remove carbon, your removing all the protective oil on the bearings.
1-2 times a year maybe 3 if you troll a lot.
Seafoam is supposed to reduce carbon and help with Ethanol.
I've tried to remove deposits on pistons and it FAILED BAD!!
I've seen there are 2 kinds of Seafoam.Gonna buy the second one today and test it.
I don't use drygas either.
I have a fuel/water seperating filter installed.
I check this every 2-3 months and have found no water since the Ethanol started.
I also installed a small particle filter between the pump and the carb from Wally World g2 or g12 depending on hose size. The newer models have this installed already.
IF???? Your system has any crud in it anywhere it will get pumped past the pumpscreen(older model) and into the needle/seat. The filter before the carb stops this completly.
