HELP!!!! new Mercruiser 3.0 and Old 1981 120

I need a final answer on this topic. I have heard from Bondo that the Mercruiser 3.0 will bolt right in place of an older Mercruiser 120.<br />Is this TRUE of FALSE. TO keep us on the same page I have an 1981 18 foot Stingray open bow with a Mercruiser 120 and Mercruiser 1 drive. Be honest because my boat is named MY ***** due to the little nagging engine problems I have everytime i take her out. If i can put the old 120 to sleep you bet i will throw a 3.0 in in a heart beat.<br />Thanks-

Bondo is right a 3.0will fit with out a problem.

Bondo says hes making it all up and hes hasnt been wrong yet... Im in Texas and have a 96 140 for 1200. hehehehehe

In NC Talked to wife about a new engine and you bet she said IT HAS TO GET YOU THROUGH THE SUMMER. MY current 120 does run pretty good other than some vapor lock every now and again. Check back at the end of summer and i might be intrested.<br />Thanks-

Was thinking there may be some trouble with the exhaust depending on what you have and what you buy to put in it. Shouldnt be too hard to get it to fit.

As long as you use the Mod.1 manifolds, the 140,+ 120 are the same...<br />If you change to Alpha1, you'll need to change the inner transom plate...<br />The alpha1 has narrower rear motor mounts....<br />I've never Tried to mix + match that far... I've always used the manifold that matches the boat, rather than the other way around....<br />So, YES, there are differences... But the MOTORS are a direct inter-change.....<br />The Dressings ON the motors Are Different.....<br />I guess I should have gone alittle Deeper, But the Question was, Will the Motors Swap.....
