Not sure if this counts as repair, but I don't have an ignition key for the boat I just purchased so I was wondering what my options were. Security isn't a big deal because I'm going to trailer the boat.
Would it be worth paying a locksmith to fab a new key, or could I re-route the ignition wires from the control box to a new igniton? Could I just jam a screwdriver for now? I don't even know if the engine runs or not and I would hate to spend money on a locksmith if it didn't.

Scott, A Johhnyrude dealer can order or sell you a key. He will need the ignition key number. If the key is mounted in the dashboard, you can hot wire it easily. Normally the ignition wire is grounded to shut off the motor.

A new ignition switch may be your most economical and painless option.

You don't give a model or year, but most OMC control box key switches from the 1970s on up have a number stamped on the face where the key goes. If you have the number you can match it up at a dealer. You should have change left from a $5.00 enough to buy a coffee & donut...

It's a 1970 60HP Model#60073D (just got the number today.) There is indeed a number stamped right were the key would go. Thanks for the help.
