help on 270 tilt help want to go out tommorow

i have the 270 volvoout drive and i was just wondering when the boat is out of the water i can push down on the motor and it will go right tothe ground.is this normal or not is it suppost to hod the motor...and when driving the motor wont bring the motor up unless i put it in nuteral....it is the power tilt no hydr. goes where the trany is inside motor compartment...are you not suppost to drive without it all the way down or what....i dont know

and it wont bring the motor all the way up about an inch from stopper

It is a TILT mechanism. NOT TRIM.
So trying to trim it up while in forward gear will do nothing.
Yes, you can push the drive down by hand.
Sounds like your system is working nomally.

if i have the motor up before going into gear will it stay up at idle so i can go thru shallow water or is there something i can buy to do so...

Probably not, unless it's binding from corrosion.

Nope, other than a boat with hydraulic trim AND TILT. Or you could change transom shields and move up to one with trim. But that is something that takes some forthought and a lot of work and alot of looking around to find all the parts if you want to try the changeover.
PS: The engine WILL have to come out for the change.
