I haven't been on the lake in a rear!! Need new bunks, so here are a few questions:

a) First, I assume the bunks jump shape themselves to the hull by the weight of the hull on the wet wood, and that it's totally normal that the new one look like they'll be sitting higher at first?

b) After reading all the posts here, the consensus seemed to be that good, straight wood was good enough, and that marine treatment, etc. is not critical for bunks?

c) I'm using new wood and wrapping with good quality bunk carpet. I plan to glue and staple. I assume some overlap will be normal, particularly around the ends. Any hints there?

thx

Re: Help on Bunks Again--Please

I think your off to a good start. When I did mine, they were very simple. I did use PT wood, mostly because it is usually the higher quality wood (Before treating) and less prone to warpage. I found a 3M spray-on adhesive, pre-cut my carpet to fit the assembled in one step. I waited until a boating/camping weekend and one evening I simply removed the old bunks, and bolted on the new ones right there in the parking lot.

Do your overlaps on the bottom, and nobody will ever see it.

A lot of people say thats its better not to over lap them and leave a small gap at the bottom to let the water drain out of the carpet.
