I have had a bogging issue at full throttle and several people have advised me to change the fuel filter.
I have ordered the parts. A new filter, bowl, and ring.
I have never changed one before and did not see any instructions on-line.
Because it is so easy hopefully?
I wanted to check in with this group before I made the attempt.
I know where the filter is and have already unscrewed the bowl once or twice to check it.
What is required to get the filter out?
Anything I should keep in mind while making the change?

Boggin at full throttle? Does it shut all the way down or just slow down.Better description?
Easy to change the filter. Just unscrew. It should be a see through filter, see any water or gunk in it?

When I shoot out of the hole or while running wide open the engine will come right up but then lose a bit of power of and on. When running 1/2 or 3/4 throttle it can't be noticed. It never comes close to shutting down, just acts like it can't get enough gas to stay wide open. I removed the bowl and noticed a significant amount of black specs in it. I dumped it out and the engine seemed to be better afterward but the issue crept back up after a couple of runs.

The black specs could bete rubber hose coming apart??
How old is the unit?Boat too?
Install a fuel/water sperating filter between the squeezie and the tank.
Ethanol is messin with older hoses and some plastics.
The hoses look great on the outside but are falling apart inside.
Good the flters catching the particles.
You need to take the hose off at the carb and squeezie it into a glass jar.
See if any other gunk is getting through.
Just to make sure change to E resistant hoses. You have to ask for it or you'll get regular hose.

Thank you for the responses. The boat is a 2002 Triton fish and ski and the motor was made in 2001

One of the 2 low pressure fuel pumps is failing.

while I'm not going to argue that a pump could be failing, after finding black specks (bits of the fuel lines) I'd change all the fuel lines to the ethanol resistant ones as Jerry suggested first. You'll probably need to go ahead and have the carbs rebuilt as well, if its in the bowls, it's in the jets. That would explain it feeling like its starving for gas

Thanks for the responses. My family is heading to the lake this weekend for a four day stay. I would hate the thought of the boat bieng in the shop during that time. We have a family pontoon boat up there so the weekend wouldn't be a total loss, but really prefer mine.
As a last hail mary before taking it in I was going to clean the fuel filter with carb cleaner and run ring free at a dose of 1 ounce per 2 gallons of gas. Is there any harm in running the boat a 3/4 throttle all weekend. The problem does not manifest itself in that range. Only full throttle.

lean running cylinders tend to toast the pistons , if motor is sick fix it
