Help on Finding right Impeller Kit

I have a Force 85 (1987 I believe) with the model number 856X7A (there are too many model numbers to have any clue if the numbers stand for anything when looking at parts lists)

Seems to run pretty good now but I want to do a few things like the thermostat (if bad after testing) and changing the Impeller., Captain Frank had a fantastic tutorial about doing this in the sticky thread and it does not seem that hard but my confusion comes in when trying to get the right Impeller kit? Also my Solec manual has like 5 version of the engine with not a very good differentiation between them...

Any suggestions on the correct kit to get to change the impeller. It seems to be working OK now given when I am on the water, water comes out really well from the two holes on the back. When on Muffs though water spittles out but not a huge FLOW like on the water. Not sure when it was changed last as I just bought it recently and I would rather do some of the minor things just to be sure. Besides doing this stuff is fun and a good way to get to know the engine and give that self gratifying pat on the back for doing it and not paying someone to do it.

Anyway, hope the Model number helps but it is confusing as to what I should get exactly..

Thanks in advance

Go to iboats store or to www.crowleymarine.com. Both have selection windows so you can identify your particular engine. Once identified, it will give you a menu to select from. Select the cooling or lower unit menu and search for the part number you need. Then all you have to do is order it.

Re: Help on Finding right Impeller Kit

Thanks,

I went to Crowley Marine and the Model number I found on the boat was 856X7A but that does not match to what I am finding H0856X87A which is the closest match. Guessing the 85 is HP, the & or 87 is the year with the 6X and A being some designation for this engine.. No Idea what the H0 is though.

I find what looks to be correct in the Gear portion but do I need to get the Kit or would I be Fine in getting the Impeller? Again I am not sure what the best move would be so from the experience of the forum, what is the best/most common route to go.

Thanks

Re: Help on Finding right Impeller Kit

Forget the HO stuff and just use the basic numbers. The kit contains the impeller and required gaskets. You will need them. You may also need a pump housing if it is corroded. Has the boat been used in salt water? Do you know if it was maintained properly?

You can always pull the lower off before you order parts. This way you will have an idea of what you need.
