hello I have a 1990 four winds 190 freedom right now i have a 14.25 X 21 rapture stainless steel prop. However it feels sluggish when coming out of the hole when trying to pull skiers. I think i should go down to a 14.25 X 19 would this be a good prop for better out f the hole speed? how much top end will i lose? any suggestions thanks

WOT= Wide Open Throttle.

i prefer a 4 blade prop when pulling skiers/tubes i get a better hole shot and better control when making tight turns at speed.

So based off my motor what size of a four blade prop would you recommend? any particular brand?

Re: help on prop selection

double check wide open throttle (wot) rpms. 5500 is on the high side for an omc inboard should be more like 4400-4600.

What exact motor do you have on that boat.

JD, if I have the right gear ratio for your setup 1.61:1, please verify this. If this is so then by changing to a 19" Solas Amita 4 blade prop you should increase your RPM slightly and gain a lot of hole shot and acceleration with less bow lift and maybe lose 2 MPH. They are only about $ 120 here on Iboats.

Re: help on prop selection

I went from a Michigan Wheel 3 blade stainless 19" pitch (48-78120-19) to an aluminium Solas Amita 4 blade 19" pitch (1513-48-19) and totally love it. I am running a 1997 Merc. Alpha 1 Gen II, 190 HP.

I cannot say enough good things about the Solas prop. Extremely high quality and great price.

Re: help on prop selection

Well sorry this took so long but since t was the end of the season I didn't try out a new prop however For this season I did take your advice and I dropped don a size and bought a 14.25 X 19 Hustler 3 blade prop, I have heard great things about this prop and a buddy of mine has it and only has good things to say about it. Hopefully it will warm up soon so I can start going boating and I will let ya know how the new prop goes!!!
