I have a bass boat with a livewell drain hole at the bottom of the boat. It is also equipped with a aerator and overflow hole in the livewell. My problem is that when I quit fishing and load up the livewell drain hole somewhere between the back of the boat and the livewell is partially or fully clogged with whatever it picks up in the river. It is very slow to drain at best. his makes it difficult to get the fish out with a full livewell. I have to use a water hose to pressure the trash out. Should I plug the livewell drain hole before I use the boat? Will just using the aerator and letting it go out of the overflow work okay?

The overflow and bottom drain probably use a common drain tube.

What are you getting clogged with? mud/sediment? or leaves and stuff?

If big stuff is getting in there, you need to look into getting a water inlet screen to keep that stuff out.
