help please 25 hp johnson 1991

i have a 25 hp johnson that idels great ! but it goes dead around mid range to top in !does anyone have any thought to what it might be the needle valve is new and does not effect the idle when running ! carbs have been rebuilt and are clean ? what might it be

When you adust the idle mixture screw does it do anything and what was the float height set to when you put in the carb kit.

the idle screw does nothing i dont know about the float

What is the idle screw set at and it sounds like the float may be out of wack. Also there is a small round gasket that fits over the middle nozzle tube in the float bowl area of the carb. If it gets left out it can cause exactly what you are describing. Might want to take carb off and check float ht and make sure that the gasket is in place.

mid to top is pretty much all on the high speed jet... (the vertical tube extending into the bowl)... It sounds like maybe there is still something clogging it up or something? I'd try pulling the carb back down and clean that good... Air compressor works really well for blowing out all the little spots...
