Does that distributor have a coil ?

If it does hook the wire from the switch to the negative side --- the distributor is making and breaking the circuit to fire the plugs.

That switch is a normally open switch and I cannot see how it would work supplying power in the new configuration to run and opening to interrupt the engine spark while you shift ---- ingenuity will prevail :)

Best guess --- sorry

yes it has a coil its an aftermarket mallory marine coil but its similar to tha stock coil. its an electronic breakerless distributor. not sure if that shift interupt swich can be or should be ran to positive or negative on the coil. thanks for reply

If it has a coil --- the distributor makes and breaks that circuit --- by grounding the coil ---- that is the dwell, how long the coil is grounded saturating the coil winding building up a magnetic field --- then the circuit opens --- the magnetic field collapses --- induces a magnetic field in the high tension windings and firing the plug.

The interrupt switch grounds the circuit when the shifter is moved to kill the engine --- so the normally open switch should work on your application --- connect it to the negative side of the coil --- grounding the circuit and killing the engine during the shift.

Good Luck
