HELP please Need to find out year of motor

I was told it was a 84 modle boat and motor but when I look the model # up it does not show it for 84.
The model # is J40TLESR, and the Serial # is G02552664. Thanks Tim

40 = 40hp
T = Trim and Tilt - Electric Start
L = Long shaft (20")
E = 9
S = 0
R is a production code


Therefore ES makes it 1990.

Use the letters in "introduces" as numbers 1 through zero, Vic.
