I am trying to pull an OMC 120 outdrive I am removing it at the bellhousing, so I guess I am taking the drive unit(?) with the outdrive. anyhow, I took all the bolts out that attach the two together. is there something that I am missing or is that it and I just forgot a bolt somewhere?

It would be nice to know which OMC drive you have as they have at least five.I'm guessing electric or stringer in which case you would be well served to remove the drive, then pull the intermediate and engine as a whole and deal with them on the bench. The coupler of this unit and the angles and clearance you need to accomplish this your way are likely not there.

Re: Help please! pulling omc outdrive

is a 1978, I wooked and every single bolt is taken off. I am trying to separate it between the bellhousing and the unit that conects to the outdrive. the only thing I can see still connected is the steering bracket and cable. I can't see how to disconnect this part, but there is some play so the lower unit should at least pop free. I am getting really frustrated over this, and I am selling the boat and outdrive, so I really don't want to go buy a 35 dollar book for this.

it will be hard to repiar it right with out a manual and even harder to sell the boat if you break a 1000 dollar hard to get part trying to force something apart that may not come apart how you think it should

tommays

A 1978 outdrive is removed very easily. Disconnect the shift cable and clamp inside the boat, then remove the 2 9/16" headed trunion bolts on each side of the outdrive on the back of the boat. The outdrive will then lift off while you carefully allow the shift cable to pass thru the mid-section.

Go to your local library and see if they have a manual.

I'll probably get blasted for this, but just because you don't want to spend 35 bucks for a manual doesn't make the job a No Brainer.
There are still things that have to be done properly or it will cost you even more to fix.
That is why manuals were put out by the manufacturers anyway. So their techs would know how to do things without breaking things in the process, and do the job right the first time.

Your Local Library will probably have a copy of Somebodies Manual that covers your outdrive.......
Try There....... ;)
