Help please removing shift lever

I hope someone can help me. I have searched everywhere online and can't find direction;
I have an older 10hp Mercury outboard. SN: 7111614 This motor is in beautiful condition and has hardly been used at all. Unfortunately, I broke the shift lever. Just the plastic part. I ordered another one, which I am picking up today. I took the nut off which I thought would remove it. It didn't. I have no idea how to get it off. Can anyone help please?

Prybar and it will come off fairly easily.----Is this a 9.8 model ?

Thank you for your reply. I didn't think my request worked. I kept getting error messages. Anyway, that thing was seized on there good!!! I finally used a little mini zip disc and got it off. Thank you anyway
