Re: Help Please With 12hp West Bend ( 12301 )
<Hello Folks, This looks like a great site and it seems to help a lot of people ! NICE WORK to all that helped someone out !!! So, I just bought a 12hp west bend 12301 would anyone know the year and what kind of spark pulg and gap ? A part store near me says champ h12 but it has j6c . The j6c is about 2 threads smaller then the h12 ?>
1963 model year
24/1 fuel/oil mix (50/1 would kill it quickly!!!)
You'll have to look at your data plate to see what RPM it is rated for since my manual sez:
4,000 RPM---Champion H8J
4,750 RPM---Champion J4J
Plug gap .030
Points gap .020
<Next , the motor runs but seems like when running someone is turning the kill switch on and off but gets much better when I close the choke half way , any ideas ? Thank you for your time !>
Fuel system partially restricted. Probably the main jet but could be anything from a stopped up vent hole in the gas cap to the lines, filters or float valve. Start at the vent hole and work your way thru the carb. Replace ALL rubber fuel lines since the old ones melt from gasohol----that may well even account for the sour running. Keep us posted. HTH, Tom
