Hello all, I have a 1989 Yamaha prov 150. The steering seized up so we replaced steering cable. However I can't get the steering tube off of the old one as the nut won't turn. Any advice?

The aluminum tube has seized to the metal steering cable. Spray it down with good penetrating fluid and keep it saturated for a few days. Then try tapping on it with a hammer, you may get lucky. If it separates, clean the tube thoroughly and lube it good before you reassemble it.

The circled nut is the one that won't come off? Tap the nut after soaking for a few days and some heat might help loosen it.

After the nut is loose, the cable may still be stuck in the tilt tube. Do pretty much the same thing. Put the nut on the back on the other end, soak it and tap the nuts, again heat can help.

Be gentle - That tube is a 100 buck part.

Agree with GA Boater be very gentle if you use heat. Hopefully you will be able to salvage the tube. I would use an old wrench on the nut, just sit and tap on it. May take a while, but could be worth it to save the tube.

I would cut the cable so your not fighting it

Then if penetrating oil and gentle heat does not work, mix up some oxalic acid and toss in the tube, etc to disolve the corrosion
