I am very new to mercury outboards, I have a 2005 115hp 2 stroke...On top of other minor things i have been sorting out, I just noticed that if I have it in gear, and shut off, the prop is locked and wont spin backwards(which i believe is good)

But if i spin it by hand forward it makes a clicking noise?? and spins....is this normal??

I tried un hooking the shift cable and shifting it forward and backwards manually with the same result...

I am supposed to be taking it to the lake in the morning for the season, so any advice would be greatly aprreciated..

Re: Help! Please..

Rotating the prop with finger pressure only,

Forward: Prop will turn (ratchet) CW, will not turn CCW
Neutral: Prop will turn freely either direction
Reverse: Prop will not turn either direction

Sounds like you are completely normal so get it in the water and have a good season.

Re: Help! Please..

Gerry. Thank you SO much for the quick response!! that is exactly what it is doing! it was that ratcheting clockwise that paniced me.

I got this new cc proline, with the mercury one, and I am SO unfimilar with it. My old enine was a 1998 Johnson 115hp faststrike, and it did not ratchet. Forward gear was like reverse gear on this motor.

I Just finished packing the suv and I am goin to head out~~

Thanks again!! i was going for it, but i wouldnt have been able to sleep...LOL
