Hey guys I'm trying to change the impeller on my 1978 Chrysler 115hp outboard. I removed the 7 bolts holding on the lower leg and disconnected the shift linkage at the back of the motor (small pin with codderpin) it dropped about a half inch and now it wont move anymore. Am I missing something?

Sounds like it's all unhooked and should drop out.
Sometimes the splines on top of the drive shaft get twisted and kinda lock in the end of the crank.

Sometimes a wooden pry bar will help.
Maybe locking the flywheel in place(somehow) and twisting the lower unit and hitting with a rubber hammer or a big block of wood.

A friend bought a PRISTENE 85hp.
Decide a new water pump was needed.
Ended up buying a different motor as the shaft wouldn't come out.

The water tube got pretty stuck on mine holding it like that. It just needs some persuasion. Be ready for when it pops loose so it doesn't fall on you.

I got it. We both grabbed hold of her today and with a bit of pulling and wiggling I got it out. I would assume it's a good idea to grease the splines before reinserting it.

Also when I gotry it out a black rubber seal and steel ring fell off. I'm assuming from the drive shaft. What order do they go back on?

Yes always grease the splines before you put it back together. The metal ring goes on first then the rubber seal second. The metal ring hits a stop on the shaft and will only go down just past the spines. It does have and top and bottom side. The rubber part sits inside it. The rubber will be on top and contact the engine.

Lot's of grease.
Where the shift rod goes through the seal.
WD 40 and shift in and out of gear a few dozen times spraying frequently.
Then grease it and leave a blob of grease on the seal.
Will help shifting for a while.
