You all have helped me so much in the past. I went with the suggestions posted earlier and bought the complete water pump kit made by sierra for a 1977 Mercury Model 200, 20HP. I have taken apart the old water pump and have everything ready to put in the new water pump. I have purchased 2-4-c multipurpose lubricant and loctite blue and red. The repair manual is a little bit hazzy on what parts need lotite and the multipurpose 2-4-C. I assume the oil seal that goes between the bearings and teh water pump base gets the 2-4-C. Does the seal that goes between the lower unit and the water pump base get coated with anything as well as the seal(appears to be made of a fiber material), then metal plate and then the seal that goes between the base plate and the water pump cover. Also does the water pump insert that the impellor fits into get any type of lubricant? The local maring shop said to use dish soap for all the seals and impellor insert, but I was not to sure about that. Last how is the best way to line up the water tube from the upper unit with the water pump along with the drive shavt? Many thanks to everyone that helps out on this site. You all are the champs.
