Hi,

I got a merc 3.0lx with alpha gen 2, I sometimes have to play with it in order
to get it to shift into reverse. The gears will grind and will not shift right away, And when it shift, some times is at hi rpm. Can anyone help me with what the problem might be.( shaft, cable adjustment or shift interupt)

Ayuh,... Odds are the lower shift cable is worn,+ needs Replacing...

The manuals are in the Adults Only section of this forum,...
It's well explained there....

I kinda agree with Bond-o but the high rpm thing makes me kinda wonder about the control box.

I think I remember reading about a recall on my control box,
I wonder if that's the reason why.

does it shift smoothly from the engine compartment?
is your shift interrupt switch working? if this is the problem, you'll have a hard time getting out of gear...

@cr2k: the high rpms/grinding could be due to faulty SIS...

Are you trying to ease the drive into gear? If so, don't.
If you are starting to get throttle before it engages, something is very out of adjustment and/or just wore out. probably both.
Shift interrupt is for getting the boat out of gear. the shift shaft isn't adjustable it's either in correctly or one or the other direction does nothing at all. Among other issues.
