I have a 1988 Johnson 60 J60TLCCR and I figures since we are quarantined because of the corona virus I would tune up the boat. Here was my plan. Sea Foam the carb, New Plugs, Impeller, foot oil. No big deal. While I was in the middle of the seafoam treatment of the engine and carbs the muffs somehow slipped of the water input and my engine started running hot. I suspect it was idling this way for anywhere from 5-10 minutes. I was in the boat but running wires for a new fish finder and checking the pee stream every couple of minutes. I immediately turned it off and dropped the foot the impeller was completely melted to the housing. I ordered a complete pump kit and continued on with the plugs and fuel filter. I then checked the compression and I was getting Top=130 Middle=125 bottom 130. I then decided since I didn't have a water pump yet to connect the water hose directly to the water pump input hose. Water was peeing fine and then I turned it over and it spun once and basically the starter couldn't turn it anymore. I then pulled all the plugs and water started coming out of the bottom cylinder. As this point I pulled all the plugs and turned it over several times to get all the water out. So this is where I am at. Did the over heating cause the problem or forcing water up the input pipe blow a gasket Or was it a combination of both. I guess the bottom line is I have a trip the 1st of May and I have to get it fixed. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Where do I start?
Also Compression after the water in the bottom cylinder is still good. Do I need an exhaust to housing gasket, head gasket and thermostat.
