1998 Merc 115 offshore. We put new drive shaft seals in the water pump base. I have a seal and O-ring for the shift shaft and would like to install it. The reatainer looks like it is plastic or nylon. Took the bolts(2) out but the retainer won't pry up. Don't want to break it. Is it supposed to lift out, or does the shift shaft have to come out?
