Help stern drive top making noise Ford 302 small block v8 175 hp with omc stern drive

Hello everyone,

New to this. I would appreciate help if possible. Need to know what omc sterndrive is attached to 302 Ford small block v8 175 hp. Reason being a knock
or pinging sound inside top of stern drive. Goes in forward and Reverse prop spins in both direction. less sound when you open throtle. need right stern drive to figure out exploded view of top of omc drive to trouble shoot. Or if someone kwows what this might be, a heads up would be great!

could you please give me more detail. is this amajor problem or something that just requires taking cover off and applying lubricant. oh yeah u mention no pm does this request appear as a private message? what is a private message?

What Bondo is eluding to...is what year is the engine/drive

If you can post as much detail as possible it will improve your chances of getting quality answers. Find the serial number for your engine & drive, model numbers, year etc....

What year is the boat? At least we can guess from that...
What color is the drive?

Could be as simple as a u-joint or gimble bearing....

Thanks for the encouraging words. This engine is a 1977 175 horse power ford
302 small block v8
its a 1977 galaxie boat tri hull oldie but goodie. Can not read the omc outdrive model number because somone painted over it .trying to determine to buy or not. engine very strong very smooth. knuckles have wear, no lagging or jerking going forward or reverse no clanking when shifting.
trying to determine what is making the noise, sound is coming from top of stern drive need exploded view to determine what it might be. does anyone have a diagram to help or do
you know what omc stern drive was coupled with the 302 for 1977 for this 1977 galaxie Tri hull boat, that would be a great start
The color of the out drive is white the engine is blue

Ayuh,... DON'T.... It's an old Stringer drive,...
There's No parts,+ No service available for them....
The fact that it's Ford powered makes it even Worse,.... Lot's of NLA parts...

Not that Ford powered are bad motors, (I prefer them) it's the obsolete OMC marine devises attached to them, engine coupler, manifolds, pulleys ect.
