HELP... Submerged motor wont start

Hi,<br />I have a 50's (?) Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5. Last weekend we swamped the boat and the motor was submerged. Following the owners manual here is what I have done so far.<br /><br />- removed and cleaned carb, fuel bowl<br />- removed plugs, cleaned and dried<br />- with manifold down, cycled motor and let water run out.<br />- removed starter and let points dry out<br />- with compressor and air hose, air dried ignition components<br />- squirt oil in the cylinders and rotated engine. repeated several times.<br /><br />At this point I have no spark. Last night I sprayed the ignition parts with WD40 to dissipate the water. Have not checked for spark again, but will tonight. <br /><br />Unless anyone has any other ideas, I am going to take the flywheel off and attempt to dry the ignition parts out further. How do I get the flywheel off. I loosened the crankshaft nut but cant seem to get the flywheel off. I have a parts motor and as a last resort I could switch the magneto, flyweel and ignition. If I can only get the flyweel off. Sorry for the long post. Anyone got any suggestions?<br /><br />Gratefully - Doug

Ahoy, Doug. Back the flywheel nut out far enough so that it is even with the end of the crankshaft. Lay a piece of softer-than-steel material on top and, while gently prying the flywheel with a screwdriver, rap the end sharply with a hammer or mallet a time or two. The flywheel should pop loose. Take the mag off and roast it in a 150 degree oven for about half an hour.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB

May I suggest a side of boiled thermostat with that roasted mag. Wonder what wine goes with that.....

I dropped my 9.9 and the kill switch filled with water, ruined it. The symptoms were the same. If you have a kill switch disconnect it.

Your points are made of tungsten. Any moisture will coat them with a layer of non-conductive oxide. Do all the above, but also run the striker of a matchbook accross each point surface 3 times. Then,run a thin cloth thru it to remove any powder.<br />Yummy!! Vintage Envinrude washed down with vintage Supertech2000 TC-W3. When's dinner?<br />
